WHY I AM ALWAYS TIRED AFTER FOOD?
You want to know, why do I feel sleepy after eating breakfast or why I am so tired after eating?
Here, we are going to answer everything about being tired and sleeping after food, But lets understand it first as following.
So, you’ve just had a big meal or maybe even a small meal and you’re feeling pretty lethargic and tired. Well, I want to share with you exactly why that happens and what it means and obviously how you can prevent that from happening in the future.
Many of us may have felt an undeniable urge to sleep after a hearty meal, it usually happens right after eating lunch. But why it happens?
UNCONTROLLABLE SLEEPINESS AFTER EATING
The Answer: Sleepy after you eat or to be tired after you eat, usually comes from two different reasons number one when you eat you trigger insulin, meaning the blood sugar level is going to go high, Similar situation after thanksgiving meal. Because it is a high sugar meal. Secondly, if you are taking putting the breads in your body and even sugar and especially combining like something like some soda some sugar with the protein that’s a deadly combination. Even some pasta dish you are going to get tired because of the blood sugar effect.
Apart from the main reason above, there are so some of the bad habits that you can eliminate get yourself normal after every meal.
REASON, COMPLEX MEAL HABITS CAUSES YOU TO SLEEP
When you eat a big fatty, sugary meal along with protein you will feel tired and sleepy. Why is it happening? well let me explain to you with an example, if your body is made up of 6 cars, your body manages these 6 resources(cars)=energy to perform, external and internal tasks.
If you have six cars of energy and you have something to eat. Now, your body and your digestive system is going to require some energy(cars) to perform digestive tasks.
So, let’s say three of those cars to digest that food which leaves you with three cars to do other things.
Other things, such as, think clearly, or focus clearly while at work or during studies, move your body for work, and just function.
Now what happens in a lot of cases is if you have a complex meal or a big meal then your stomach and digestive system requires more energy units, more of these cars leaving you with one measly car to all other functional activities.
That means, you have little energy to do anything and that’s why you feel like heading into a food coma.
REASON WHY YOU ARE ALWAYS SO TIRED AFTER EATING
So why does this happen why does our stomach and why is our digestive system require so much energy to deal with food leaving us tired afterwards.
Well, part of the problem is that over the years we bombarded with junk, we beat up our system, we beat up our stomach. We provided the wrong food choices and overtime our stomach and our digestive organs and glands are not able to function as optimally as they did when we were little kids.
1 IMPROVE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
So, we want to look at first and foremost is how do we improve its natural function. First and foremost, chew your food completely it should be a ball of mush in your mouth before you swallow it.
Because, what you’re doing while chewing the food is, you’re essentially acting like the blender before it ends up in your stomach. So, the more chewing you do the less work your stomach has to do
That’s really important because the less work your stomach has to do the less tired you’re going to feel and the more nutrients you’re going to be able to absorb out of those foods.
2 AVOID DRINKING DURING AND AFTER MEAL
You want to really avoid drinking a lot of liquids with your meals. So, if you’re one of those people that has a huge glass of water with all your meals you want to avoid that because that’s going to dilute your stomach acid(HCL).
So, HCL is hydrochloric acid, hydrochloric acid is the acid that your stomach produces in the presence of food.
It’s extremely important to have a high amount of acid in your stomach. Because that acid is going through signal for the release of pepsin or the conversion of pepsin to pepsinogen which basically means that is an enzyme that’s going to help break down protein upon consumption.
If you don’t have enough HCL that’s not going happen effectively and you’re going to have a tough time breaking down meats and different proteins
It is not only going to make protein digestion like animal proteins and so forth, but a lot more challenging and digesting protein is a very labor-intensive process and that’s going to wear you down.
So, completely cut off drinking liquid during meal and after meal specially, if you have to drink some liquid, drink 15 minutes before meal, but only half glass of water and after having meal, at least wait for at least 80 minutes.
3 FOOD SENSITIVITY
Basic food sensitivities. You might have a sensitivity to a specific food you’re reading and that your body is going to respond with fatigue and that’s one of the hallmarks science.
A food sensitivity is fatigue generally around when you ate that food I mean so we’re talking about either food sensitivities or digestive issues both of them drained or energy and the solution is very much the same support the digestive system heals the gut.
because nothing enters your body until it crosses the digestive walls the intestinal walls so when you eat a food it’s technically outside your body until it’s been absorbed across those intestinal walls so support
4. TIRED AFTER EATING SUGAR
Change your food, cut out the refined sugars, cut out the breads, pasta cereal crackers viscous waffles pancakes and just have like a salad with some protein. Consume a little bit of fat. Why? because we had a little fat we can actually allow us to go longer and without eating be more satisfied so we keep insulin low okay.
WHAT IS ENERGY LOSS AND MEDICAL TERMS?
The feeling of being tired after a meal is called as postprandial somnolence. Here are some of the causes.
-The Time of Your Meal Yes.
-The time of day that you eat is crucial to how you feel afterward.
According to many experts, we feel a natural dip in our energy twice a day, once at 2AM and again at 2PM.
So, if you are having your lunch at around 12:30 to 1PM, you may feel sleepy by the time it hits 2. This is because your energy lowers at that time.
Additionally, after a meal, your body is more concentrated on digesting that meal than any other process. When you think about it, going to sleep may not be a bad idea, as it would allow your body to digest food better.
TRICKS TO AVOID SLEEP DURING THE DAY
There is a solution… Try and get at least 7 hours of sleep at night, this way even if you feel a bit tired at around 2 in the afternoon, you won’t feel sleepy.
Since you’ve gotten a good sleep your body has already completed its sleep cycle.
As far as being tired is concerned, you can regularly drink some lemon juice or water to replenish your energy. This leads us to our second point. What You Eat A wise man once said, “We are what we eat.” Well, in a way it is true.
TYPE OF FOOD THAT AFFECTS AND PUT YOU TO SLEEP
The type of food you eat affects your body. If you are eating foods that help produce serotonin, then you might feel a little sleepy after having lunch.
Serotonin is a chemical that can help in regulating your mood as well as your sleep cycle. So, what kind of food causes the body to produce more serotonin?
The answer is simple, any type of food that is rich in carbohydrates and proteins. Foods with lots of protein contain amino acids, one of which is tryptophan.
This is in stuff like turkey…which is why you might feel sleepy after eating it. Tryptophan helps the body to produce more serotonin and the carbohydrates help your body absorb more tryptophan.
Tryptophan is mostly found in eggs, meat, fish, spinach and dairy products. All of which are very important sources of protein for humans.
Similarly, carbs are mostly found in foods like pasta, rice, bread and cakes. Simply put, there is no way you can escape these two.
Hey all they want to do is help your body rest while it absorbs the necessary minerals it needs to function properly. Although it might be a problem if you are going for a meeting or a presentation right after you eat.
HOW TO AVOID SLEEPING, WHEN YOU DON’T WANT TO SLEEP
Instead of having full meals three times a day, divide them into five or six balanced meals. This way you won’t be consuming enough tryptophan or carbohydrates to affect your mood or your sleep cycle.
It would enable you to be more productive and stay healthy. Don’t skip meals, as you may end up causing more harm to your digestive system than you realize. Oh and always have a proper breakfast.
It is the most important meal of the day, after all.
SOME PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WITH FOOD TO KEEP YOU AWAKE
Quantity of Food You may notice that the urge to sleep increases when you have consumed more food during your lunch break. Just like we explained earlier, when you eat a lot of food that may contain tryptophan and carbohydrates, you will feel the need to sleep more often.
The amount of sleep you got the night before also plays a major role. Additionally, if you already have high levels of blood sugar then you would likely feel sleepier, as we explained earlier, the larger meals in the afternoon are known to raise the blood sugar levels and dip the energy flow of your body.
So. if it’s approaching 2 in the afternoon, you’re feeling drowsy and you didn’t have a good sleep at night, it’s probably because you had a lunch filled with protein and carbohydrates.
You’ve just cooked up the perfect recipe for a nap.
INSTANT SOLUTION TO AVOID SLEEP
First of all, never compromise with your sleeping hours. When you don’t have enough sleep at night, you will feel sleepy during the day. That urge will only increase after you have had lunch.
Go for a short walk after lunch. Walk for 100 meters and back if you can. Since your body is now involved in physical activity, it would be able to digest the food without casting the sleeping spell on you.
If it doesn’t work out, you can also drink some juice before your lunch.
Additionally, you can also take a short 15-20 minute power nap during the day. It would help you feel better and more focused with your work.
Did you know in Japan; companies encourage workers to take power naps after lunch to increase their productivity? Sounds cool, right? Of course, there are two other methods to avoid sleeping after lunch.
KICK OUT ALCOHOL TO AVOID SLEEP
Avoid Alcohol When you drink alcohol along with high-protein food and carbohydrates, you’re inviting trouble. The alcohol works as a catalyst for the serotonin and increases your urge to fall asleep. Forget going to work after lunch, you will find it hard to leave the restaurant. This is why you should always avoid alcohol while having lunch.
Apart from that, it’s inappropriate in many work cultures to be intoxicated in office.
LIGHT THERAPY TO AVOID SLEEP
Bright Light Therapy Usually, exposure to brightness may not be good for our eyes. Although there is one time when you can expose your eyes to bright light, and that is right after you have had a delicious lunch.
According to researchers, people who were exposed to bright light, right after having lunch felt less tired. Hmmm, sounds fascinating, doesn’t it? If you try this, then you won’t have to go for a walk after lunch. Sleeping is an essential part of our daily routine. When you have to stay awake and be productive for 17 hours a day then you need to sleep at least 7 hours at night.
